Hi from Georgia!
Hi from Georgia!
My name is Alisha and I'm from Georgia (near Atlanta). I've been an avid watcher of SVU for years and just now stumbled across this site. I absolutely adore Mariska and all she does for fans and charity and admire the strength of Olivia Benson's character. (I don't want to delve into Meloni's absence; I might cry. )
Anyhow, I'm almost 27, live daily with Cerebral Palsy, hip Bursitis, Bipolar Disorder (though not quite like Kat's was portrayed), and an eating disorder. I am also a twice rape survivor. I write to keep my mind busy as well as interact on Facebook. (If you wish to find me there, I'm at http://www.facebook.com/freezingthatframe. A link to my writing is there, should you get bored.)
I've been perusing the board since it came back up and thought I'd give posting a try. Please be nice; I'm sensitive. I also wanted to make an avatar/custom sig request. I'd like it if my name were included but otherwise I'm hardly picky and would be over the moon!
As far as books, I adore non-fiction memoirs. I love reading what other people have been through and learning from them. Music: Tori Amos! Other singer-songwriters as well. Before I went into a coma last year and lost the ability, I'd played the piano my entire life and had that as a hobby.
So, anyway, feel free to ask questions, "friend" me on Facebook...I welcome interaction as I lead a very admittedly lonely and sad life. I try to not let it get me down though by relying on others for support and distractions (SVU/Mariska/CM) for cheering up.
Thanks for reading. Hope to "talk" to some of y'all soon!

Thanks for your kind thoughts, Apple. It's just a part of life. What counts is what you do with what happened. :)

That true, but being able to talk about it is a big step....and call me AnitaAlisha wrote:Thanks for your kind thoughts, Apple. It's just a part of life. What counts is what you do with what happened. :)

Re: Hi from Georgia!
That's quite true Anita, and it is very difficult to talk about--even my "medical issues." They seem invasive alone, if that makes any sense and while I'm not saying the "other issues" are any easier to deal with/get help for (I have none), certainly no one I have come across considers the psychological ramifications of chronic physical illness--how that affects the spirit and soul on a daily basis.apple wrote:That true, but being able to talk about it is a big step....and call me AnitaAlisha wrote:Thanks for your kind thoughts, Apple. (Sorry to have rambled so much. I'm not even sure I quite expressed myself so well, either. I tried. Thanks to all for reading.)

(This is kinda-off topic and I know I asked before, but do you know of anyone who would make me Mariska/SVU avatar/banner? That would make me feel really special here. :) Thanks for your warm welcome, Anita. It means a lot to me.

I Admired you strengt and tenacity just by reading your post I see is not easy but you have found a way to draw strength from adversity and that's what makes a person special; so thanks for posting.
About you sig. I'm sure one of our members can help with it; I'm not that savvy on that but if I can you can count on me.

Thanks for being SO sweet. So far I've been recieved with such a warm welcome I just can't believe it. I'm actually surprised anyone would want to get to know me a little better and humbled to be admired. I just decided on a Mariska forum everyone was likely more open so I'd put myself out there and see what people had to say, so thank you all for listening.
Anyone about the avatar and banner/sig? I'd be over the MOON! :)

Re: Hi from Georgia!
Welcome to the board Alisha. Sorry about everything you have gone through in your life. Keep your head high, and you will make it through the difficult times.
You are stronger than you think you are. Keep pushing forward, never give up on your dreams, and don't let anyone stop you.
Re: Hi from Georgia!
Thanks for your encouragement. It makes the difficulties somehow easier to endure. Thanks for the welcome as well! :)Danjakejoe wrote:Welcome to the board Alisha. Sorry about everything you have gone through in your life. Keep your head high, and you will make it through the difficult times.
